Kilbourne was first called Eden. It later took the name of Col. James Kilbourne, the surveyor behind the Old State Road, an early highway that still runs past the village along with State Route 521. A Kilbourne post office opened in 1837 and served the community until 2017. Today it's a hamlet of about 130 people in Brown Township, close to the north end of Alum Creek Lake, with farm country all around it. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Delaware is a short drive away on 521.
We're The Punctual Plumber. Show up late, and we pay you $5 a minute, up to $300.
Kilbourne's core has buildings that go back more than a century, and the community has seen new interest lately as owners restore old storefronts. In Brown Township as a whole, census estimates show about one in five homes was built before 1940, with big building waves in the 1970s and again in the 2000s. So in one afternoon we might replace a 1970s water heater, fix a pressure tank on a 2000s home and track down a slow drain in a much older house.
Delaware County's Del-Co Water serves much of the county, but many rural Brown Township homes rely on private wells. Delaware County had more than 8,000 private wells as of a 2005 state report. Without a village sewer system, homes here generally use on-site septic. That means a clog can sit in the house, in the line to the tank or in the tank itself, and part of our job is finding out which.
Many Kilbourne-area homes have a well, a pressure tank, a water heater and a septic line all working together. When one piece acts up, it can look like a problem with another. Low pressure might be the pump, or it might be a clogged sediment filter. A gurgling drain might be the vent, not the septic. We test before we replace, explain what we found in plain language and give you a price before we start.
In fall, shut off and drain hose bibs and yard hydrants, and make sure any pipes in a barn, shop or crawlspace are protected. A heat lamp or heat tape near a well tank in an unheated space can save you a no-water morning. In spring, run water through buried downspout lines to make sure they flow. Replace well sediment filters on schedule.

Hugo arrived at my house within the window of time I was expecting which was helpful. I could tell he knew what he was talking about. He gave me several options including an option to finance the replacement of my hot water heater. In short, he was kind, courteous and professional.
A pump that won't shut off can mean a leak somewhere in the system, a bad pressure switch or a pump that can no longer build pressure. Turn it off if you can and call us. Running dry can ruin a pump.
It depends on what's in it. We'll test for hardness, iron and other common problems and recommend a softener or filter only if your water needs one.
Yes. We work on older homes and storefronts, including galvanized supply pipe and cast-iron drains. We'll explain whether a repair or a section of new pipe makes more sense.
If one fixture is slow, the clog is usually close by. If every drain is slow or the lowest drain backs up, the problem is further down the line. A camera inspection shows us exactly where.
Yes. That includes Kilbourne, Brown Township and nearby rural parts of Delaware County.
